At the end we decided to stay, although we considered this behaviour really unprofessional. When we arrived, there was no performance at all, only a soccer game on tv. We then talked to the waiter to know if there was a place inside (as we planned this dinner there in order to be entertained) and she tried to call the other location in Aragon, where they had our table inside: they assured us that they had performances also there so we decided to go there. The waiter told us that Terrace in Spain means on the street, but no one ever told us that and anyway you couldn’t hear the music. When we arrived at Alameda, we discovered that the “Terrace” was a table alone on the street, without any decoration and completely outside of the restaurant: you could never hear some music or anything. Therefore, we decided to book a table to be sure to have dinner also at Alameda: they had only space in the Terrace, which was fine for us, as long as we could hear music and see the performances. At the end, the waiter in Aragon told us he reserved a table but to call back for confirmation: no one never answered. We tried to call both locations 20 times as most of the time no one was answering or no one spoke English. As we knew we were going to be Valencia from Saturday to Tuesday, we decided to book a table at Zazu on Sunday night in order to see an “animated” dinner. We had many problems with Zazu, both the restaurant Alameda and the restaurant Aragon. Located on the left-hand side of the joint, it’s housed in a climate-controlled circular room that’s about six metres high. My favourite part of the restaurant’s design was the wine cellar. Mirrors make the space feel larger and the tables are not so close that you can hear each other’s conversation, but close enough that you don’t feel isolated. On the other side of the hallway is the main seating area with alcoves within the walls displaying artworks. You can enjoy a cocktail here while you wait for a table, or even just pop in for a drink and a few nibbles rather than a full meal. The design of the restaurant is modern with a sunken floor leading to a bar that has liquor bottles back lit behind the counter. The doorman leads you through a short hallway dimly lit with floor lights, before introducing you to the maître-de who seats you. When our taxi dropped us off, I felt as though I was walking into a million-dollar show home rather than a restaurant. Zazu is the highest rated restaurant on TripAdvisor, which is how we discovered it, and rightly so. If their answer is a no, I slowly look away and shake my head in disappointment.īecause honestly, Zazu is the BEST restaurant we’ve eaten at in South America and to visit Quito without dining there is like going to Rome and skipping a visit to the Colosseum. When they reply with a yes, I’m inclined to high-five them. We’ve been living in Ecuador for two months now and every time we meet someone who’s been to Quito, my first question is “Did you eat at Zazu?”
